He has been the funky drummer to Carlton J. Smith at club dates, opening acts to Hootie & The Blowfish, Average White Band, Bo Diddley, The Family Stone and others. Joe also plays with various bands in New York and is a member of the Black Rock Coalition.
Mahone also travels abroad with Carlton J. Smith playing at clubs in Shanghai ( China ), Zurich ( Switzerland ), etc.

He can be heard on numerous recordings and has performed on many CD's and compilation works of Carlton J. Smith. Joe Mahone has recorded at the following studios: Mother West Studios, Calcutta Recording Studios, Exile Studios and others.
Mahone's musical background is diverse and his influences are drawn mostly from the American roots music of Blues, Jazz, Rock, and Funk.
